Remote Snow Day Materials

Message from Principal Burnell

Winter has finally arrived here in southern Maine! As WOCSD has now used four traditional snow days, we will transition to a remote snow day format moving forward. In the event we receive additional weather that would normally cancel school we will instead attend class remotely. Students will meet with their teachers by Zoom and be assigned work to complete remotely. Moving to this model will provide us with a predictable end date for the 2022-2023 school year.

In anticipation of the potential for inclement weather and to be proactive throughout the remainder of the winter, WES students will begin transporting their laptops to and from school each day. Please be sure that laptops are returned to school each day charged and are only used at home in the event of a remote snow day.

Thank you for making remote snow days possible for our students. Transitioning to this model will allow us to avoid further disruptions to the school calendar and will provide us with a predictable end date for the school year.

Sincerely,

Kyle Burnell

Principal

Remote Snow Days: What to Expect

  1. WES will use this site to post all links, learning materials, and Zoom invitations for remote snow days.

  2. Students will attend a morning meeting and lesson, complete independent work, and have the option to connect with their teacher during "office hours" in the afternoon.

  3. Teachers will be available by email until 2pm to answer questions by email.

  4. Teachers will upload materials prior to the start of the school day (9am).

  5. Students will click on their grade level on this page to access the appropriate links and learning materials for the day.

  6. Core Extension activities will be available. However, when we return to school in person, we will not miss an in person Core class (Example: If a remote snow day falls on Day 2 we will hold Day 2 Core classes when we return in person. Students have the option of picking any Core extension activities they wish during a remote snow day).

Remote Snow Day Expectations

  1. Attend class remotely following the schedule below.

  2. Set up a learning space outside of the student's bedroom.

  3. Enter Zoom meetings with the student's name visible and camera turned on. Only students with their own name visible will be allowed to enter the Zoom meeting.

  4. Follow all classroom and WES expectations while on Zoom.
